In yesterday’s Menu Monday, I have included a dish that is
very traditional from my homeland, the Philippines.
It is called Giniling. I grew up eating this and it’s one of
my favorites and it will be my entry for this week's Treasure Tuesday. It is mainly made of minced meat with diced vegetables. We eat
this together with boiled rice as we do with everything. I will show you how I
did it just like how I learned it at home from my mom.
In this recipe I used the following:
500 grams minced pork and beef (50-50)
1 onion, chopped
2 potatoes, diced
2 carrots, diced,
2 cloves garlic, ground
1 red bell pepper, sliced in proportion with the other
ingredients
frozen peas, amount depending to how much you like
ground pepper to taste
fish sauce to taste
After all ingredients were prepared: washed, unpacked,
sliced and chopped, I heated the pan with a bit of vegetable oil.
Then I sautéed the onion and the garlic until translucent and
added the meat.
Stirring well so that all the meat will be covered in heat.
I then added some fish sauce to integrate the taste to the
meat.
I covered the pan with the lid and let it simmer until the
vegetables and the meat are cooked and tender.
I then add a generous grinding of black pepper to taste and added a few more drizzle of fish sauce to make sure the taste is perfect.
When done, I served with rice and craving is fulfilled!
I hope this recipe has given you a bit of insight on how our
food is like back home.
How about you, which traditional dish from your country are you fond of
and would recommend?
Let me know.
Lots of love,
Jo xoxo
