The Carnaval/Carnival season has started and I can feel
everyone around me is so excited for the celebration.
In this part of The Netherlands, the season started on the
11th of November at 11 am. They call it “de elfde van de elfde”
which means the 11th of the 11th. This originates way back from
celebrations before the Advent season.
At work, a lot of people are taking days off to celebrate.
This just shows everyone in this region is looking forward to the festivities.
I on the other hand will just be on my desk doing my thing.
I only recently moved to this part of the Netherlands where
Carnaval is highly celebrated. This wasn’t the case where I used to live which
is on the western part of the country. So I am quite intrigued as to how it is
going to be. The celebrations will be on one month from now, from the 13-17th
of February.
As everyone will all be dressed up, I might just have to
find something to blend in. I absolutely have no idea what to wear, as I have
never celebrated this before. Do you have any idea what I should be pick
up?
Do you celebrate Carnival/Carnaval where you are? If yes, how? Let’s
share stories.
Lots of love,
Jo
