Wellness Wednesday: A Powerful Fruit

You may think I live in a cave, but I have never tried pomegranates before. We don’t have them back home in the Philippines. I kept asking my husband how it’s like and as wise as he is, he told me to try it myself.

So one day, I bought one in one of my trips to the grocery. To be honest it stayed in its trusty place for quite some time when it came home with me. I just passed it by and stared at it for a while, as I didn’t exactly know what to do with it.

I didn’t really know how to or why I should eat seeds! Although other seeds I do enjoy eating i.e. sunflower and pumpkin seeds. I just refused to give in to the idea of eating its seeds. Nope, wasn’t happening.

So I search the web and look for things I can do with it and juicing was what appealed to me.

Since I don’t have a juicer, I used my blender and I think it worked just as fine. It came out to be a one delicious drink.

Pomegranates I heard are rich in antioxidant, and have been well-regarded as symbol of health, fertility, and eternal life. Wow! The fruit contains punicalagin which lowers cholesterol and blood pressure. It is also rich in phytochemicals which fights depression. All these facts you will find on Dr Fuhrman.

For a powerful fruit as this, it has now merited a regular place in my pantry.

How about you, which fruit do you consider a superfood?

Lots of love,
Jo xoxo

    1. Hi Vivi, you should try it, it is sweet. If you don't like to eat the seeds you can always make it into juice or smoothie just like how I did. Thanks for dropping by.

  3. Jo you sound like me when I'm hesitant to try a new food. I was like that with Kiwi. I still can't get a taste for it but I did try it and like you it stayed there for days and I'd take a look at it and pass it up. LOL

I've never had pomegranate either. What did it taste like? I feel like it has a berry-like taste but not too sure. My husband has to lower his blood pressure and cholesterol. I'm going to make him some smoothies like this too.

    Great post!

    1. Hi Corina, it's good to know I'm not the only one! hahaha! Pomegranate tasted unique, it's sweet but not too sweet. I would have like it if I could just eat some meat out of the fruit instead of seeds. But juicing or smoothie is also a great alternative. I'm glad you liked the post.

  4. Growing up, my mom would always buy pomegranates for us to eat because they were super healthy but I always hated spitting out the seeds! This is a much better way of eating it! Thanks for sharing :)
